Many people wonder - why wrap your car when you can just paint it for less? Simple question, complicated answer.

Well, it's a simple answer if you own a business and want to advertise. Painting is not even an option. With a wrap, you can put anything you want on your car, not just a solid paint color. Ads, slogans, eye-catching graphics, phone numbers, the sky's the limit. That being said, let's say you just want to change the color of your car.

  • Personalization
    • A big benefit to a wrap is you don't need to just change the color. You can do anything you want with the color. Have a color shift, have a blend from one color to another. Get racing stripes, flames, skulls, you name it, built right into the car itself. Wraps are a great way to personalize your car, and have it stand out from all the others in the crowd. Nothing turns heads like a stylish wrapped car does.
  • Permenance
    • A quality and well installed wrap will last an average of 5 years.
    • Wraps are completely removable, and while on the car will protect the original paint job.
    • By protecting the paint you help maintain it's resell value.
    • If you lease your car - many times you're not allowed to repaint it. No fear of that with a wrap.
  • Cost
    • Quality wraps are not cheap. Depending on the materials used, and your car, it can cost between $2,000 and $3,000 to have your car wrapped. (Larger vehicles like trucks, full size SUV's, Hummers, etc can run much more)
    • You may find a wrap for less than that, but question the quality of the matierals and the experience and credentials of the person applying the wrap. Almost all wraps that fail are due to poor installation, and not the vinyl itself.
    • Similar to wraps, paint jobs will vary in cost and quality as well.
    • It's possible to get your car painted for as little as $300 - but how good a job do you think that would be? A proper paint job requires stripping off all the old paint, sanding and priming all the painted surfaces, and then multiple layers of paint and sanding to achieve the finished result. A factory quality paint job can run upwards of $5,000.
  • Appearance
    • Fact is, if you want special effects like a carbon fiber or snakeskin texture, or special patterns like camo or to have artwork on your vehicle, your only option is a wrap. You just cannot achieve those effects with paint.
    • Wraps are, sadly, color limited. Solid color and metallic wraps are only produced in a limited number of colors. Printed wraps, while they can be printed in nearly any color you can imagine, do have limitations. Need that very specific shade of dark red in a pearlescent coat? You're better off with paint - just no economical way to get that in a wrap.
  • Installation
    • Once your design is approved, materials are in hand, and your vehicle is dropped off for wrapping, the wrap can be completed in as little as 1-2 days, depending on the complexity of the vehicle. Some may take longer, but in general, it's ready to drive home within a day or two.
    • Painting time does vary from shop to shop. But all paint jobs require multiple coats, each taking time to dry. While many newer shops have baking equipment that speed the drying process, it's not unreasonable for your car to be in the shop for over a week for a high quality paint job.
